Baobab is a traditional French cuisine restaurant situated on Hin Kong beach.

With breathtaking views across the calm sea which is perfect for sunset, chef Fred creates superb dishes using only the finest ingredients that he can source.

Baobab is all about quality and taste and you can expect refined high class food with service and atmosphere to match.

Phanganist was lucky enough to try a selection of dishes including the extremely popular lamb with soft spices, cannelle, cinnamon, coriander seed, star anise and masala. The spices are sourced from Malaysia.

The lamb is slowly cooked on the bone in the wood fired oven so that it is soft and literally melts in your mouth with a delicious warming flavour.

The fois gras which is cooked for just one hour compared to the duck pate which is cooked for three is delicate yet full of flavour and served with freshly baked bread from a nearby bakery and onion chutney which provides a contrasting tangy accompaniment. The duck pate is equally as delicious.

We also had the king fish terrine which tastes superbly fresh with lime and herbs, a great dish for a romantic, by the ocean sunset dinner.

Desert is no let down either! After an indulgence of the most finest flavours and cooking, we ended our French cuisine love story with Yogurt and red fruits with Madagascar vanilla, a sweet yet balanced and creamy end.

John and Fred were perfect hosts, with a stack of experience in the restaurant trade behind them, these two definitely know what they are trying to achieve with Baobab and already it is living up to expectations.

This really is a place that ups the standard of French cuisine on the island, you must go visit yourself to enjoy this standard of food and ambience.

Fred and John we wish you all the best!
