Temnemenee will provide his skills for our weekly Drum and Bass night this Friday the 17th of February, we find out more...

Hello, so what is your Koh Phangan story?

Hi, I came here accidentally, my friends invited me to join them about three and a half years ago or something. Since then I’ve been a freelance translator and interpreter, I can work in any part of the world, so I just found my home away from home here. I travel a lot but inevitably return to the island once in awhile.

Where did the name ‘Temnemenee’ come from?
This is the Latinized and coined version of the Russian expression which implies ‘nevertheless’. It kind of just stuck.

When did you discover Drum n Bass?

In the past century, around 1995. I am from St Petersburg, and ‘DaBass’ DnB crew emerged there at about that time. It’s a long story...

When did you start djing and how?

I began to collect various music as a kid. Cassettes… yep, this word invokes some reminiscences. At about the age of 15 I became interested in the DJing stuff, and it all began to unfurl further.

What gigs have you played and what have been some of the best?

I have played at lots of parties and festivals in my native St Petersburg, Moscow and various regions of Russia starting from 2009, at various small venues on Koh Phangan and in some other countries later. I also played some sets at Burning Man, USA, in 2013.

Did you enjoy your last time djing at Phanganist Hostel?

Well, last time it was held I was in Bali, but I definitely enjoyed playing at Phanganist twice or thrice earlier.

You will play this Friday, what will you bring that's unique?

As for the ‘unique’ department, I dunno, carefully selected good music with nice vibes, something nobody probably has ever heard before.

DnB is hopefully on the rise again here on Phangan, why do you think it's important to have it?

Because the island is literally overflowing with 4x4 beats, and I reckon it’s expedient to provide other musical options to the people.

Why do you think DnB is special?

D’n’b vibes somehow resonate with the island quite smoothly. I play a maelstrom of styles, experimental mid- and downtempo, funk, suomisaundi, trip hop, to name a few. Every genre can be special, you just have to know how to find the gems.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

At least three months in Thailand, probably Cambodia, Nepal, South Korea... Many plans, gods laugh, you know.

What do you enjoy about Phangan in your free time?

I hope ‘almost everything’ will suffice.

And leave us with your 'music philosophy'.....

Time is too short for bad music.
