Akir’s first time in Phangan was at the end of February of 2013, He came here to met a friend of friends which is how many people’s stories start. He was supposed to continue his travels all around thailand but it never happened, he ended up staying almost 6 months. Then he would come back again and again (each time his "holidays in phangan" he would stay 6 months at least) and it's always hurt him to leave. We caught up with Akir for a chat about his beautiful work.

What do you feel you can bring to the Phangan scene?
Actually a lot of things, the good thing with Phangan and Phangan people is how easy it is to make friends and find amazing people to work with.
I don't really have limits with my art, I can design t-shirts for parties, companies or on a Phangan island theme. Also I can create different advertising (I did a lot in Thong Nai Pan) chalkboards etc...
I never did  this on the island but I'd love to try to design places like resort rooms, lobbies and party places. As I said, the art doesn't really have limits and I'm able to make it

What do you think about the Koh Phangan music and party scene?
I'm a lucky man because I have had the chance to travel a lot (44 countries) and have seen a lot of different kinds of parties but I have to say I have never seen anything like Phangan parties! People are amazing at these parties, maybe the best ever!

What do you feel you can bring to the Phangan scene?
I'm slowly starting to build a strong identity with my name and my art all around the world (next step will be the art Basel in Miami). I think it could be good to associate my art and some of my influences to this island, I'd love to be a kind of Phangan art ambassador.
I can't really say I already bring something to this island but I would love to and maybe I will find the way to do it, maybe through a collaboration.

How do you spend your free time on the island?
As 99% of people on Phangan do, CHILLING and enjoying the life, doing art or just relaxing and meeting people for art projects or just to share our experiences.

What projects are you currently involved with \and what are your next projects?
As I said the next step will be Miami for the art Basel and I also plan to make a project with Anantara resort in chiang may and who knows, maybe I will have a chance to work on the island after that with Anatara TNP.

How did you get to where you are today?
If I have to give my answer in only one word it will be "working" and never give up. Many people ask me how I do my art because it looks really easy, but it takes me 6 months and 10 hours per day to get to this level. I'm never confident enough to say I have done it already, I keep working hard and try to push the level as far as it can possibly go!
The second thing is the network, never be afraid to follow what you think is the right thing. No matter if it doesn't bring money but it always brings good memories and good experience and sometimes money. When you do art you can't put money on top of your priorities, if you do it with love it will happen anyway, practice everyday.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Who knows? I love to be surprised and never plan my life. That's the best way to never be disappointed But the only thing I can say is I will always have an attachment with phangan, as I said earlier I visited a lot of countries and places but Phangan is definitely one of my favorites.

What is your life philosophy?
Well, that’s a really good and hard question, I'm not able to reply in a simple way. I'm human so sometimes I feel bad, even though I may feel bad I take this  energy to create good things!
So my philosophy depends of the energy around me, maybe that's why sometimes I run away.

Thank you so much and good luck with everything!
