Koh Phangan is the certainly the Famous Full Moon party island..

..but to know your beaches here is very important too – otherwise the beautiful Bounty Beach can turn out to be a “bitch”. 

 
First of all you have to know your seasons here. Will you be here in low season – that meaning from March to October – you will be very familiar to low water swimming – unless you took the time to explore and find the only high water beaches left in low season. 
The most known of them all of course being Haadrin Beach .. always high water – good for swimming and even surfing if the wind blows. You will always get waves and always lots and lots of people sunbathing – jet skiing – surfing – swimming or dining in the restaurants facing the beach front. All good – if you are not one of those who like it more private.
 
 
For low season swimming in more private surroundings you must go north. 
Up north on a small island is not so far as is sounds though. Half an hour drive on your bike or in a taxi is maximum what you can expect here. As soon as you cross the middle of the island – the water seems to be swimable again – meaning deep enough to not scrape your knees while attempting to swim. 
 
On the east side you will have beautiful beaches all the way up till you reach the top Koh Mah or Chaloklum. Here you will always have deep clean emerald green water for your swim or you’re snorkeling. 
 
You can also choose Than Sadet or Thong Nai pan – even more private settings on gorgeous beaches! Again no more than half an hour drive on bike or taxi and you will have reached destination! Advantages of a small island!
In low season the rest of the beaches is more bitches – full of sun but no where to swim. Sitting is possible – but the water is quite warm when so low! A bit of a bitch!
High season your pick of real beaches is better! 
The water is high on most of the beaches – but still have to know that during Black Moon mostly low waters around all the same places as in low season. 
Full Moon mostly give you the high water – but also that you cannot count on fully! – Only if you go to the places I just mentioned!
 
 
When you have the high water – every beach on Koh Phangan is worth a visit! It is defiantly a paradise that you want to se and be in … but know your tides ;) !!
