The whole of Koh Phangan is good for sunset but of course at that time the more West of the island is directly in front of it so is famous for sunset spots like Zen Beach and Amsterdam Bar but what do you do if you’re busy or don’t have time to get over there, you can just stay in Baan Tai of course!

Over the last few years the number of hostels, bungalows and accommodation in this area has risen so you may find yourself staying here along with a lot of other visitors, it’s nice and central between Haad Rin and the West coast so is popular with tourists and also locals.

But Baan Tai beach has been somewhat under rated compared to its perfect relations which are dotted around the island however you can find glorious, soft sanded beautiful spots along this large stretch and still enjoy sunset by staying local.

The area close to Ban Sabai is a popular choice as depending on the time of the month the tide can be very far out so that you can walk out from the sands of the beach.

In Baan Tai the sunset will be slightly to the right of your view but this doesn’t make it any less spectacular and it changes every single day, they never get boring.

Phanganist Hostel is located in the heart of Baan Tai and we are lucky enough to be a 5 minute walk to the closest beach just across the road.

This is the area where Great Bay Resort is and here you will find a lovely clean beach with shady trees at the top, fisherman stations and boats just off shore and a bunch of friendly dogs to make friends with who love to just chill with you on the sand.

The sunsets here are very beautiful and you can enjoy them from the beach or walk or swim slightly out into the sea as the ocean never gets very deep around here, yet just enough to be able to immerse yourself if you wish.

There are many other little spots along Baan Tai beach which are not connected to resorts where you can enjoy a sunset with a little more peace and quiet, you just have to walk down the tracks/paths to get to them rather than going through a resort.

Enjoy your local beach and you will find it may become more of a secret than the famously named ‘Secret Beach’ on Koh Phangan that everyone knows about...
