Phangan Arena is one of the first and surely of the famous hostels on Koh Phangan. It has started its way ten years ago and was keep developing ever since. We met Jeremie, one of the three founders to a chat about how was it back then and since.
Hi Jeremie, thank you for having this interview with us.
When did you first come to Koh Phangan and what made you fall in love with the island?
Hi and thank you. The first time I came to Phangan was in July 2006. We were 3 friends ( Yves, Aurelio and myself) traveling around Thailand but we came back 4 times in 3 months to the magic island.
Why the idea to open the hostel?
Every time we came to Phangan we realized that the prices went up for the full moon parties. Not just the prices but also the minimum stay. There was a minimum stay of 5 nights, the party got bigger and more famous and I felt it will be a good idea to open a hostel in Phangan.
It's had a few different names over the years, why did it end up as Phangan arena?
Well, our previous name was Hard Road Cafe. I thought it was fine as we live in the country of « same same but different ».
and our logo was also very similar to Hard Rock Café, but After 2 years we were asked to change our name and became Blue Dream.
In 2016, we built the first proper football pitch on the island and that is why we took the name of Arena.
We became Phangan Arena.
What makes Phangan Arena unique?
We have 44 rooms and we are proud to be a party hostel but also a sports complex.
Gym, football, badminton, we used to have a beach volleyball court and we will build a tennis court soon.
Our friend Anton is building a jujitsu studio on the property. That makes us really unique. Sport and parties at the same place.
what is the secret of Phangan arena’s success, being one of the best hostels on KP?
Our facilities for sure and our proximity with our guests. Our leitmotiv is: « Come as a guest leave as a friend »
How do you think the island will develop 10 years from now?
I am optimistic about the island nature being kept and preserved regardless of its rapid development. Even if there were many 7/11 shops, family Marts, Big C, Makro and many villas being built in the last 10 years I personally think that the local government protects nature a lot.
Congratulations on 10 years! What can we expect from the party?
IUt is going to awesome. We have dancers and fire shows. We want to make it a great and unforgettable event.
